Meet our brother, Brent!

So you know there are two Laney Sisters… Kassi and Kayli!
But there are also two Laney Brothers… Yep! Brent and Toby.
So today, just for fun, we would like to introduce you to BRENT!
He’s a SUPER fun guy!!! And a REAL cowboy!
Brent, personal photo taken by Kassi
I gotta say when I was a little tyke, he was my favorite friend. I never really had a BESTIE when I was little since we lived in a small town. There weren’t a whole lot of little girls around that were my age to befriend.
So… I played with my little brother, Brent. And we had LOTS of fun.
We built forts out of blankets in the living room…
They never looked this good though…
SOURCE
We made elaborate plans for the day we were going to run away from home… Not that we wanted to run AWAY from home… We just wanted to go on an adventure. Like really elaborate… Once we stock piled mom’s watermelon seeds so that we could grow watermelon to eat on our big adventure… haha.
SOURCE
We rode horses at our Papa’s.
Watched Nickelodeon at our Granny’s.
And each got to pick a movie during the days home with Mom.
I always picked Heidi… Which Brent HATED…
But I got tired of watching Davy Crockett everyday too!! ;)

SOURCE
 Now we’re all grown up!
Brent is going to be one of my fiance’s groomsmen in our wedding.
But he is still a SUPER fun brother!!
And we still hang out a lot when we can get together!
Hope you enjoyed meeting another of the Laney bunch! :)
Maybe someday soon we’ll introduce you to Toby…
Until then…
Do you have any fun memories with your siblings from when you were younger?? We would love to hear about them!
If you write a blog post about it and share the link we PROMISE to go check it out!!!
P.S. Our Fancy This Fridays Linky is happening RIGHT now… Just scroll down to link up your lovelies from this week!

P.P.S. I linked up that cool picture of Brent with his rope over at The Album on For the Love of Blogs!! :)

Cross Stitch Pillow Cases

I haven’t posted anything crafty lately because most of my crafting energy has been focused on one lengthy project…
Cross Stitch Pillow Cases

I have been embroidering since I was 4 years old.
You know when you hear people say that you’re thinking, “Yeah right…”
Well, really I was. I have proof!
Our Granny taught me to embroider when I was just a little tike.
I have some pot holders that I made for her when I was 4.
She gave them back to me a few years ago… They’re rough. :)
About what you’d expect from a 4 year old girl. But I’m still kinda proud of them, so I saved them of course.
Anyway, this last Christmas my Nana (the other grandma) gave me a set of pillow cases with a cross stitch pattern on them and some thread.
Embroidery is one of those things that I tackle with a huge project, take a long break and then do another huge project awhile later. So I finally got around to those pillow cases! And their done!
Anyone can do a cross stitch. It’s so easy. Let me show you!!
Simply start with a set of embroidery hoops. You can get them for a couple bucks at any craft store. A pair of decent scissors. An embroidery needle.
An embroidery pattern. In this case, the pillow cases… And some thread.

First cut a long length of thread. Pull two strands from your thread (more than that is too thick usually, save the rest you’ll need it later if it’s a very big project.) Then thread your needle.
Now tie a knot in one end of the thread.
Place your pillow cases in the embroidery hoops at the point where you want to start stitching. You can’t see it here, but the side of the pillow case with the pattern is sandwiched between two hoops to hold it taut.

Start your stitching from the underside of your hoops. Then stitch a little cross or X following the pattern. They KEY is to follow the pattern as neatly as possible.

When you reach the end of your thread tie it off, again on the underside. Keep all knots on the inside of the pillow case where no one will be the wiser! ;) When you’re ready to switch colors, again just tie it off on the inside.

This tutorial may have been unnecessary because it’s so easy and there’s
instructions on the package if you buy the pillow case sets…
But it’s what I’ve been working on, so I thought I’d share!

So what do you think??

I know they’re not the most popular style… But I have some that my Granny made me that I will always cherish. And I think they’re pretty! ;)

Plus they take forever to finish… So as a gift, they are a lot of work!
My mom crochets an edge on all of hers… Adds a little something I think. Except I don’t really know how to crochet…
Any other ideas to spruce up the opening?
Or do you think they’re lovely as is??

Kassi’s Craft Cave

This weekend I stayed home for the first weekend in quite awhile and did some much needed house cleaning and organization!!
I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet… but the hubs to be and I are currently living with his dad in the house that he grew up in…
Long story short I got a job in a nearby town and it’s the perfect solution for us until we can find a place of our own…
My soon to be father-in-law has given me free rein to move furniture, clean up, organize and otherwise do as I please with most of the rooms in the house… YAY!
SO this weekend’s project was the catch all water heater closet tiny room. My crafting stuff and wedding stuff was pretty much starting to take over the bedroom closet and let’s be honest… the floor…
So I decided to turn the catch all room into my Craft Cave! When you see how small it is, you’ll understand the reason behind the term cave! :)
So here it is… Before.
Photobucket
This stuff shown here in the hallway was all sitting right in the middle of the floor before I emptied some if it out so I could get in there!!

Photobucket

See what I mean by catch all!!!
That’s a heater, air mattress, empty boot, hat and Scentsy boxes…
You get the idea…
Photobucket
Here you see the pile of storage boxes… That lovely water heater… and a glimpse of a real treasure…
The antique blue glass cabinet my moms-in-law discovered at a yard sale!!
NOW for the AFTERS…
I threw out some trash, broken and unrepairable items, vacuumed, etc…
And now…

Photobucket

You can see I moved that little vanity desk that was in that corner, hung up a little shelf I found buried in there, that sweet horse painting :)… and stacked the storage bins in one area.

Photobucket

Here you can see the vanity desk and chair become my sewing desk space. That cute window mirror got hung up to add a little dimension!
It’s got some real potential! I can’t wait to make it over somehow…

So what do you think of my, at least cleaned up and organized Craft Cave??

Photobucket

I would like to spruce it up in the future, maybe with some paint and a new rug… but this will work for now.

And how cute is this little cabinet??

Photobucket

It’s holding my sewing box, wrapping paper and a few books for the time being. Sorry I didn’t get a better picture of it… Had to crop another one to get this one…

So let me know what you think?? Any decorating suggestions that I could do on practically NO budget?? :)

I’m linking up to Sassy Sites Operation Organization here.

Photobucket

Check it out and link up your organization projects before the end of January.

I’m also linking to A Home Made by Kiki’s Organization Post link up!
